AO1 04:05
“AO1” - Lyrics Verse: Now the world is far away, past the dawn into the grey And unfurled as we can take, count the losses - lose the day 3-0-1 and my heart starts beating Eyes awake and my lungs start breathing Infiltrated landscape on standby AO1 has received transmission - overriding intuition Activated system - frontline down Chorus: Soaring around low in worlds away Consciousness gained slow Solar array Verse: Checking vitals on display Deferred, defected on delay With the sender open make a life designed in disarray

Japan 02:12
“Japan” Lyrics by: Brad White Verse 1: I don’t even want to talk anymore. There’s no words that could tell you what I feel here. I don’t even want to play any chords. These simple strings can’t explain what I hear, here. Chorus: I just wanna run far away from all this mess. Spend the rest of my life out in Japan. Where they wouldn’t know my name. So hello is all they’d say. And I’d look up and smile and sip my cup of tea. Verse 2: I don’t even wanna look anymore. Everything just needs to disappear, here. I don’t even wanna play any chords. These simple strings can’t explain what I feel, here.

“Fix the Fault” - Lyrics Verse: Adhere to what you are - paralyzed dreams into separate hearts Close to near as we’re apart - so low Everything is another soul Looking across all horizons sinking Passing time as the spirits drag it along Chorus: Try to fix the fault Live outside it all Verse: Adhere to what you are - paralyzed dreams into separate hearts Close to near as we’re apart - so low Taking hits is another fall Seasons track and the lovers blinking Patch the leak in attempt to fix the fault
4.
“Everywhere You Look” - Lyrics Verse: Pushing smoke to your face - keep you running away We crush desires - our thoughts replace your own We won’t give it a rest - we’ve been ordained and blessed To take control of your thoughts, your lives, your homes We’re in the dark as you meet - waiting for you to speak And utter phrases that go against our plans We cover tracks with deceit - keep it safe on the street Our whole agenda stays safe inside our hands Chorus: Everywhere you look, there we are Right around the bend, there we are Coming up to the end, there we are Verse: Distractions ready in place - keep you from knowing our names We tapped your wires - that’s all you need to know We make the rules to the test - you’re getting nothing at best We require compliancy in whole
5.
Walls 05:09
“Walls” - Lyrics As you sink into the bed you lie in Sitting all alone you find that we’re nothing If you’re looking straight ahead confined in If you stare into the sun you’re blinded Left wanting… Walls reside in your mind Try as we might - stuck inside We can’t leave at all As you’re drinking to the life you arrived in You begin to realize that we’re nothing Everything that you’ve read describes it Try to run, but you’re just reminded We’re taunted… It’s the last time...
6.
Lost It All 04:41
“Lost It All” - Lyrics Verse: You shouldn’t have left behind all you wanted You’ve quartered and left to die all you spoken You sink into the role, fighting it alone, endlessly wanting You’re looking to the wrong, welcoming the cold, incessantly haunted Chorus: We lost it all, let it go and ended all our suffering We burned it down, watched it glow and started back at nothing Verse: This life has become a lie - all is broken It’s twisted and intertwined - words unspoken You’re peeling back the fold, follow where it goes Hoping they notice You’re secondary love, sucking down the low, senses are scolded
7.
Sand 01:35
Sand Verse 1: I’m thinking of the words you said, Inside my head. They swirling and spreading slowly. Unraveling thread. Chorus: And you’re sand falling through my hands. You’re air I keep breathing in. Verse: I’m drifting to the ocean, And I can’t swim. Water swirling and rising slowly Up over my head. I’ll keep sinking till you rescue me.
8.
Wide Sky 04:01
“Wide Sky” - Lyrics Verse: We move like spiders in the wind just to get ahead The voices of our friends - never heard again We’re wearing out our shins Our knees, our legs, our lips are chapped and wearing thin Artificial skin Low and behold - we got a long way to go Chorus: Now I’m screaming at the wide sky Faded, alive The radiant shine right before my eyes Verse: We live like laboratory rats Dissected, tested, taking stabs straight to the back Devising plots and schemes and never looking back It’s still the old regime with patch between the cracks We’re living make believe
9.
Arecibo 04:27
“Arecibo” - Lyrics Verse: Aphasic talk is all I hear - hunting down a willing ear Sighing loud - nothing found Chorus: Into the black we send it out Desperate to hear an answer now Verse: Quoted in chalk, it disappears Alone as we walk for countless years A silent vow from the ground Echoing back our dazed out sphere Standing around like blinded dear Sighing loud - nothing found
10.
Stray 04:12
“Stray” - Lyrics Verse: I’ve had enough - I’ve had enough of life I’ve had enough on this side I found love - I found love and it’s right I found when I tried You want me You agree You’re running to me Chorus: Every time you stray it finds it’s own way

about

The National Pool’s first self-titled record was written, recorded, and released by Brad White and Kyle Cornett in 2006. The entire record was done in our apartment over the course of several very intense months of work. While at work during the day I would analyze new mixes and brainstorm ideas, followed by hours of recording most nights. The weekends would typically find us recording into the late evening, tired as all hell. We filmed some of the process and it’s up on our YouTube page.

We didn’t really have a sound we were shooting for when we began as we wanted the process to be completely organic. There were a few dance songs and comical songs we recorded at first while we were getting our footing. However, I don’t think we’ll ever officially release those.

We recorded most of the record without even having a band name and it was only until the tail end of the process that we finally decided upon the name, The National Pool. I made the cover with my very basic photoshop skills.

Looking back, this is still a record that I can proud of and I’m very glad Kyle and I had the opportunity to make it. I hope you enjoy it.
